Mikel Arteta has been ruled out of the game against Spurs at the weekend with David Weir also emerging as a doubt. Arteta who has been out of action after picking up an injury in the dying seconds against Dinamo Bucharest while Weir has picked up an injury playing for Scotland this week. This news will come as a blow for David Moyes as Arteta has been the only real creative player for Everton this season and it showed against Manchester City when he was also injured. It is hoped that Arteta will be available for the game against Chelsea in a weeks time.

'Obviously I would like to play him and Mikel would like to play but the surgeon has said he shouldnt be involved.'

Meanwhile Everton captain David Weir picked up an ankle injury for Scotland against Slovenia on Wednesday. Weir was unable to train today and his fitness will be assessed over the next couple of days.

'David has picked up a bit of an ankle injury that we need to assess.'
