Former Bolton Wanderers record signing Dean Holdsworth has been appointed as the new assistant manager to Phil Brown at Derby County after a year coaching in the Ryman League with Havant & Waterlooville. The 36-year old Londoner knows Brown well from their five years together at Bolton and he is looking forward to the prospect of moving into full time coaching at Pride Park.

Holdsworth made 158 appearances for Bolton scoring 39 goals between 1997 and 2002 in a career which took him the length and breadth of the country with the likes of Watford, Carlisle United, Port Vale, Swansea City, Brentford, Wimbledon (twice), Coventry City and Rushden & Diamonds.

His twin brother David also had a short spell with the Wanderers in 2002 but only made one cup appearance against local rivals Bury.

"I'm itching to go, and I've got a tingle knowing I'm back in professional football," Holdsworth told BBC Sport earlier today.

The former striker will have to wait at least two years until he is fully qualified for the role as he only holds the UEFA B Coaching badge as yet. He will continue his commitments with the Professional Footballers Association for the time being.
