Arsenal Connections

Not many people have represented Bolton and Arsenal down the years. This would perhaps be due to the distance that exists between the two clubs. One of the most famous players to have represented the two clubs has got to be David Jack, a man who has the distinction of being the first ever goalscorer at Wembley Stadium in the 1923 F.A Cup Final. George Hunt spent a number of years at Bolton as a player and coach, but his time at Highbury during his long playing career was limited to just a few months in the mid-1930's. Two Arsenal favourites of the 1970's have had spells at Bolton in altogether different capacities. Firstly, Brian Kidd ended his league career at Wanderers in the early 1980's, having had an excellent career at the top level. Fellow forward Frank Stapleton came to the Reebok Stadium in 2003 as a part time strikers coach. Bruce Rioch excelled during his three years in charge at Bolton in the mid 1990's, but his year long stay in the Highbury hot-seat could not yield similar success and he was dismissed in 1996 following a row over player transfers. In recent years former Gunners striker Isaiah Rankin has spent time on loan with Bolton, whilst one-time Wanderers loan keeper Gerry Peyton is now the current goalkeeper coach for Arsene Wenger's side.
