Bolton Wanderers reserves put in a spirited performance against league leaders Liverpool last night but it wasn't enough to stop the Merseysiders from taking all three points in a 1-0 reverse at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington.

Hungarian striker Krisztian Nemeth scored his seventh Reds goal in as many games in the first half and this now leaves Liverpool eight points clear in the title race.

Midfielder Jay Spearing hit the woodwork for the hosts and Bolton had goalkeeper Adam Bogdan to thank for twice saving well from Ryan Flynn.

It was all Liverpool in the first half and they duly took the lead on 15 minutes when Nemeth fired the ball past countryman Bogdan following good work down the flank by Ray Putterill.

The second half saw the Wanderers come more into the game and on the hour they tested Reds goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi only for the young stopper to save with ease.

Bolton could have drawn level with five minutes remaining following a mistake by Liverpool defender Mikel San Jose but striker Zoltan Harsanyi was deemed to be in an offside position and shot wide anyway.
