Bolton Wanderers skipper Kevin Nolan beleives that the club has what it takes to compete in the Barclays Premier League and UEFA Cup despite there being a mixture of opinions to the contrary.

This season has seen the Trotters embroiled in a relegation battle for the most part of the campaign and some cynics are of the opinion that the club are better off concentrating whole heartedly on their league commitments and ignoring the cup competitions.

For Nolan though, he sees no reason why the club cannot do both as Bolton prepare for their second UEFA Cup dual with Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.

The 25-year old midfielder played his part in the Wanderers 1-0 win over Atletico in the first leg last week and he feels confidence is at a high point at the moment within the squad.

Speaking to the official site, Nolan beleives Bolton can avoid relegation and progress further in the UEFA Cup without the two getting in the way of one another.

"We can definitely do both. We know the Premier League is the main priority and making sure we get away from relegation as quickly as possible." Nolan pointed out

"But we've got the belief back and the lads are playing with a lot of confidence. The UEFA Cup is the only cup competition we are left in and we want to go as far as we possibly can" he added

Last month Championship side Sheffield United knocked the Wanderers out of the FA Cup and at the end of October local rivals Manchester City sent Gary Megson's men out of the League Cup.
