Bolton Wanderers reserves travel to local rivals Wigan Athletic tonight in the hope of securing their first FA Premier Reserve League win since they beat Newcastle United to secure the Championship at the end of April last year.

The reserves are without a win this calendar year and not since Zoltan Harsanyi's consolation strike against Manchester City in the middle of December have they managed to hit the back of the net.

Defeats against Liverpool and Manchester United over the last couple of weeks have kept the Wanderers rooted to the bottom of the table with just a handful of points.

Wigan themselves are second from bottom but they can take comfort from the fact that their recent record against the Trotters is of a good standard having won 4-0 in the last meeting.

Coach Jimmy Phillips has decided to blood some of the younger Academy players at reserve level and one such player to benefit from that is local lad Matt Carlisle.

Carlisle won a second successive player of the month title recently and Phillips had no qualms about handing the full back his debut against Liverpool last week.

The Latics have a number of Bolton lads in their youth ranks with Nick Meace, Tom Williams, Chris McCaughtrie and Luke Ashworth all coming from the town.
