Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson says that the emergence of Polish centre bac k Jaroslaw Fojut prompted him to sell Lubomir Michalik back to promotion chasing League One side Leeds United last month.

Michalik had a hugely successful loan spell at Elland Road at the back end of last season and former Leeds manager Dennis Wise captured the Slovakian international on deadline day for a fee of around £500,000.

The deal came as a bit of a surprise as Bolton had lost Abdoulaye Meite due to the African Nations Cup and Michalik had played in the Wanderers starting eleven a couple of days before his move but Megson says Fojut's emergence was the reason behind the transfer.

Fojut has made a handful of appearances for Bolton since turning professional just over two years ago but it was his twenty one game spell out on loan with financially troubled Luton Town earlier this season which made him come of age.

"I don't want to, but I could loan Fojut out or sell him to 15 clubs on a permanent basis," admitted Megson over the weekend

"That is the reason why I let Lubo go. We have four very good centre halves."

Indeed one of those said centre halves Meite will be returning to Bolton this week after completing his commitments on international duty with the Ivory Coast.
