Bolton Wanderers attempts to bring in a striker before the transfer deadline proved to be frustrating as The Sun newspaper reports that the club where rebuffed in their bid to land Reading front man Leroy Lita for £7 million.

The England U21 star hasnt been able to claim a regular place in the Royals starting line up this season due to the presence of Kevin Doyle and Dave Kitson and Wanderers therefore tested the water with a cheeky bid.

However, Reading manager Steve Coppell was unwilling to entertain the idea leaving Bolton with Southampton forward Grzegorz Rasiak as their only deadline purchase.

Wanderers manager Gary Megson is hopeful of reviving his interest in Lita in the summer as he looks to sign a replacement for Nicolas Anelka, now of Chelsea.

"We had a £7m bid turned down - that shows our intention to get out of this position - but it may be a goer in the summer," said Megson

Ironically, Bolton are due to play Reading tommorow afternoon at the Madejski Stadium and Lita is likely to feature at some stage in the game.
