Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson says he would be keen to bring Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen back to the Reebok Stadium but states that all depends on whether the Spanish outfit would be willing to do a deal for the Icelandic international.

A few of Monday morning's newspapers had linked Gudjohnsen with a return to Bolton after the 29-year old had found playing time hard to come by at the Nou Camp this season.

Gudjohnsen first came to England in the summer of 1998 as a trialist to take part in Bolton's pre season tour of the Republic of Ireland and he impressed the then manager Colin Todd enough to be offered a contract.

Over the next couple of seasons he regenerated his career and helped Bolton to the Play Off Final in 1999 and three Semi-Finals the following season before being snapped up by Chelsea in the summer of 2000 for a fee of £4 million plus add ons.

He won the Premiership twice whilst at Stamford Bridge and appeared in over 200 games for the London club prior to moving to Barca in the summer of 2006 but things haven't gone to plan.

A loan move could be possible if Barcelona wanted to let Gudjohnsen go and if the player himself wanted to return to Bolton and manager Megson is certainly keen on the idea.

"They’re the type of players we want to bring to Bolton to take the club forward, It remains to be seen if we can do it but it’s not for the want of trying." said Megson in response to the speculation

“We’ve been looking at it ever since it became obvious that Nic was going to go to Chelsea, and even before that. But there are very few centre-forwards around that you’d like to bring in and who you know could come in and do a job.”

Megson knows what it means for the Bolton public to have one of their favourite sons back at the club but he says that, although interested, it will be a big ask to land a player of Gudjohnsen's calibre.

“I’d fully endorse what the locals think, Whether we can manage to get a player from Barcelona remains to be seen.  They’re the kind of players we’re trying to get into the place. But just because of the fact he is at Barcelona he is the player that he is means it’s not as easy as you would think.” added the Wanderers cheif
