Championship side Sheffield United will complete the loan signing of experienced Bolton Wanderers midfielder Gary Speed once the transfer window re-opens in just over a week from now.

The 38-year old former Welsh international will move to Bramall Lane initially on a loan deal but there is scope for the move to be made permanent at a later date.

Speed has been a model professional since arriving at Bolton in the summer of 2004 and during his time at the Reebok Stadium the club has been through one of the best spells in it's history.

He has made 121 appearances as a Wanderers player, scoring 14 times and was an unused substitute for the weekend win over fellow Premier League strugglers Birmingham City.

His last full Bolton appearance was a memorable one as he helped the club to a famous UEFA Cup victory away at Red Star Belgrade and had a hand in the eventual matchwinner scored by Gavin McCann.

As Speed departs Bolton another midfielder comes in as Gary Megson has reached an agreement with Maccabi Netayna to sign Israeli international Tamir Cohen on a three and a half year deal.

Cohen went through a successful trial at the Reebok Stadium earlier this month and he will officially become a Trotter on January 1st.
