Bolton Wanderers pair Nicolas Anelka and Christian Wilhelmsson where in action for their respective countries yesterday afternoon and both got on the scoresheet as their sides stormed home to victory in the European Championship qualifiers.

Striker Anelka opened the scoring for France in the sixth minute as they went on to beat the Faroe Islands in a 6-0 romp and Wilhelmsson scored Sweden's second goal in a 3-0 success over Liechtenstein.

Jussi Jaaskelainen was part of the Finland side which played out a goalless draw with Belgium, Stelios Giannakopoulos came on as a substitute for Greece as they edged out Bosnia Herzegovina in a five goal thriller and Joey O'Brien made his second appearance for Ireland as they gained a creditable point against Germany.
