The Bolton Wanderers reserve side earned a creditable point earlier on this evening when they drew 1-1 with their opponents Manchester United at The Victoria Stadium in Northwich to get their season back on track.

Jimmy Phillips was looking for his Wanderers side to produce a good response after their 3-0 hammering at Newcastle United a couple of weeks ago and they duly responded.

Winger Leslie Thompson was lively for Bolton in the opening exchanges and the young Londoner clipped the crossbar prior to setting up Chris Basham for the games opening goal on 12 minutes.

Basham finished with confidence for his first goal of the campaign with a shot which United goalkeeper Tom Heaton could do very little about.

The hosts drew themselves back level just a couple of minutes later when Trotters defender Chris Stokes had the misfortune to direct the ball past his goalkeeper Adam Bogdan after United had done well in the build up through Fabien Brandy, Fraizer Campbell and Boltonian Sam Hewson.

Bogdan made a good save from United defender Phil Bardsley but Basham and Johann Smith where both wasteful with their chances for Bolton.

At the commencement of the second half Smith fired straight at Heaton with the American front man fortunate enough to be presented in a one on one situation with the United custodian.

Heaton then had to be at his very best to deny Basham a second Bolton goal leaving both sides to ponder what might have been had they taken their earlier chances.
