Nicolas Anelka's early season form has been recognised by Bolton Wanderers supporters as the Frenchman has been named as the Walking Down the Manny Road player of the month for August following an online poll.

The Frenchman signed a new contract at Bolton a couple of weeks ago to quash speculation that he was all set for a move away from the Reebok Stadium.

He hit goals in the defeats against Portsmouth and Newcastle United and managed to get on target in the 3-0 win over Reading on 25th August.

Currently he sits as the Premiership's top goalscorer and his performances and goals have been a bright point of what has otherwise been a bad start to the new season.

Anelka got over 60% of the votes.
