Former Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Mark Patterson has been declared bankrupt by Blacxkburn County Court after being unable to pay off mounting debts which had surrounded him in recent times.

The 42-year old Landscape Gardener was issued an insolvency notice by the courts who would not go into the exact extent of Mr Patterson's case due to it being a private hearing.

A spokeswoman for the courts had this to say about Patterson who played for the Wanderers between 1991 and 1995 before moving on to Sheffield United and Southend United amongst others.

"Mr Patterson declared himself bankrupt as he could not pay his debts."

"He is a landscape gardener and was formerly carrying on business as Pro-active Soccer Schools and as a company director. It was a private hearing so I cannot say anything else." said the court clerk.

Patterson's last job in football was as team manager with the now defunct Scarborough Football Club until their existance ceased earlier on this summer.

During his playing career he also took in spells with Bury, Blackpool and Preston North End whilst occasionally turning out for the likes of Leigh RMI and Chorley.
