Former Bolton Wanderers reserve team midfielder Michael Roddy has joined Lincoln City on a six month contract after impressing the League Two side during a recent trial period at Sincil Bank.

The 18-year old Republic of Ireland youth international was released by the Wanderers at the end of last season and his performances in the Lilleshall Exit Trials caught the eye of Lincoln scout Kieran Scarff.

Roddy played in the Imps friendly with Grantham Town and impressed enough to be offered a contract which will be extended if he manages to impress the management further on in the season.

Lincoln Director of Football John Deehan says that the club are delighted to have the Stockton-born player on board.

"We've been watching Michael for a long time now  and we told him at Lilleshall to go away and work on a couple of things. He's done that and we felt that he did enough to earn himself a contract at the Club."

"He's a holding midfielder and will be eager to impress and earn himself an extension to his contract which can only be good." said the former Wigan Athletic manager

Roddy himself has targeted a first team place at Lincoln after spending three years in the youth and reserve teams at Bolton.

"I'm really pleased to have earned a contract with the Club. I spent a lot of my time in the reserves at Bolton so my aim is to push for a first team place and hopefully do enough to get a longer contract."
