French striker Nicolas Anelka has asked Bolton Wanderers to clarify his position at the club after recent speculation linked the player with a move to Premiership champions Manchester United amongst others.

The 28-year old has once again confirmed that he would like to stay at the Reebok Stadium and help Bolton become a major force in the top flight, but first he needs to know if he is up for sale or not.

Speaking after scoring the winning goal for France in their 2-0 win over the Ukraine last night, Anelka is hoping to hold talks about his future with Wanderers officials.

"First of all I have to find out if Bolton want to sell me or not, but I don't want to leave" said the former Arsenal and Manchester City front man.

"Yes, I want to play for one of the big four but also want to help Bolton become a big Premiership club. I have to sit down to talk with Bolton to find out what they have planned".

Anelka enjoyed a good first season back in English football by hitting 12 goals in all competitions for the Trotters following his £8 million move from Fenerbahce last August.

He has also built up a good rapport with the Wanderers support who appreciate what he brings to the team alongside Kevin Davies and El-Hadji Diouf.
