After missing out on the signature of youngster Andrew Cook earlier in the day, the Wanderers also suffered the disappointment of losing out to Chelsea in the race to sign Oldham Athletic teenager Danny Philliskirk, son of former Bolton top goalscorer Tony Philliskirk.

Philliskirk junior has agreed a two year scholarship with the FA Cup winners and former Premiership champions and in doing so will not emulate his father in representing Bolton Wanderers.

Like Tony, young Danny is also a striker and Oldham's long serving chief executive Alan Hardy says that it is a move which will benefit the youngster in the years to come.

We're delighted for Danny - he is joining a massive club with fantastic resources which will help him develop his game,"

"Talking with Tony, I know he has been impressed with the facilities. Danny has four years of security and time is now on his side to develop into an excellent player. Also, we may have an opportunity of taking him on loan at some stage." said Hardy.

It is the second time Bolton have been snubbed by youth talent this week as Durham-born front man Cook opted to sign for League One side Carlisle United ahead of a scholarship with the Wanderers.
