The Wanderers will make the long journey down to Layer Road in early August to face Coca-Cola Championship high fliers Colchester United for the first time in a decade.
Sammy Lee has agreed to send his Bolton troops down to Essex to take on the U's who finished tenth in English second tier last season despite many so-called pundits tipping them for an immediate return back to League One.
Currently managed by former Ipswich midfielder Geraint Williams, Colchester also have ex-Wanderer Aidan Davison on their books as player-coach and he helps along the careers of the less experienced goalkeepers such as Dean Gerkan and Mark Cousins.
In the summer of 1997 a goal from Steve Forbes earned United a shock 1-0 win over Bolton just weeks after the Trotters had stormed to the old First Division title.
This summer's game against Colchester will take place on Saturday 4th August 2007.
