Kevin Davies will put pen to paper on a new contract with Bolton Wanderers over the coming week according to manager Sam Allardyce. The 29-year old was eligable to leave the Wanderers on a Free Transfer next summer as his current deal was due to come to an end but now it seems as if both parties have agreed on terms which will keep the former Southampton man at the Reebok Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur had been linked with moves for Davies but the player himself recently admitted that his preferred choice was always to remain with the Wanderers.

Boss Allardyce is delighted with the news and describes it as like signing a top class centre forward.

"There was always a possibility he would go elsewhere - he is a quality player. But I am glad to say he will put pen to paper on a new contract in the near future by securing his long-term future at the club.

"It would be the biggest boost to this club in a long time. He epitomises everything that Bolton Wanderers stands for. He is the ultimate professional and, from my point of view, it would be like signing a top-class striker, he is that important to us."
