Wanderers reserves ended the year on a high as a Ricardo Vaz-Te goal was enough to defeat Liverpool at the County Ground last night. The Portuguese striker struck the only goal of the game midway through the first half to give Bolton their third win in the last four matches and preserve a recent upturn in fortunes.

It was a relatively quiet opening period but Vaz-Te tucked away the all important matchwinner past Liverpool goalkeeper David Martin on 36 minutes following an excellent pass by Idan Tal.

Martin denied Bolton a further goal early in the second half as he saved well from defender Mark Ellis and was alert to keep out attempts from Matthew Cassidy and James Sinclair.

At the other end Ellis and substitute Leslie Thompson both made clearances off their own goal line to deny Liverpool duo Danny Guthrie and Besian Idrizaj, whilst Wanderers keeper Ali Al-Habsi was also at full stretch to deny Lee Peltier.

The next reserve game will take place in the second week of January as Bolton travel to Stockport County in the next phase of this seasons Manchester Senior Cup competition.
