England U21 stand in coach Sammy Lee has refused to rule out the possibility of taking on the role on a full time arrangement. The Bolton Wanderers assistant manager left his post with the England national set up this summer and media reports at the time suggested that it was because he couldn't devote the time to the U21 team but the man himself says that no such offer was on the table.

"First and foremost I wasn't offered it because it wasn't offered as a full-time post," said Lee who tonight stands in for current boss Peter Taylor

"If it was a full-time post I think anybody and everybody would be interested in taking on such a prestigious and important developmental role as is the under-21 manager.

"Unfortunately, it was not a full-time post that was offered to me. There were obviously names mooted around but I hadn't been offered the full-time post. Anyone would be interested in the full-time England under-21 post because of the potential to work with great young players, it's an all-embracing truly developmental role, but it wasn't offered."
