The Wanderers will be hoping to put last weekend's 4-0 drubbing by Manchester United behind them as they take on local rivals Wigan Athletic at the Reebok Stadium this weekend.

United became the first club in over five months to score and win at Bolton so Trotters manager Sam Allardyce will be anxious to avoid a second consecutive defeat on home soil when bogey team Wigan come to town.

Last season the Wanderers took just a singular point from the two games against their Lancashire neighbours which also included defeat in the Quarter Finals of the Carling Cup so Allardyce will be keen to consign that bad sequence to the history books.

Bolton currently lie third in the league table and are one of the Premiership's form teams whilst Wigan have jumped up to mid-table after winning their last two matches against Manchester City and Fulham.

South African international Quinton Fortune hopes to return to the Bolton squad after missing last weekend's defeat against former club Manchester United with an ankle knock but Ricardo Gardner and Joey O'Brien (both knee) are still a few weeks away from playing.

Wigan boss Paul Jewell is without former Tranmere Rovers full back Ryan Taylor as he continues his rehabilitation from a broken leg. Fellow defender Fitz Hall is doubtful with an ankle problem so Andy Webster and Arjan De Zeeuw could continue their central defensive partnership.

Bolton-born keeper and boyhood Wanderers supporter Mike Pollitt is likely to be named amongst the Latics substitutes bench.

IT HAPPENED WHEN BOLTON PLAYED ATHLETIC

Experienced striker Bobby Campbell scored a hat trick for Wigan to send them through from the First round of the League Cup in August 1987. Bolton's Jeff Chandler suffered a serious ligament injury in that game and was ruled out for the majority of the Wanderers promotion campaign from Division 4.

Ex-Wigan midfielder Tony Kelly made a bustling run from the Bolton midfield to score in the last ever meeting at Springfield Park.
