Ex-Bolton Wanderers assistant manager Phil Brown is said to be in the running to become the new manager of League One side AFC Bournemouth... Brown left his position with the Wanderers just over a year ago to take full control of Championship side Derby County but his his stay at Pride Park proved to be less than fruitful as he lasted less than a season in the Rams hotseat.

Now the 47-year old Geordie aims to bounce back and he is being considered as one of the frontrunners to replace Sean O'Driscoll at Bournemouth after attending their recent game against Brentford last week.

Bournemouth chairman Abdul Jaffer denied speculation that he had personally invited Brown to the game and Brown himself was quick to play down reports of a move to the Fitness First Stadium by claiming that he was on scouting duty for Bolton.

Ex-Cherries midfielder Jamie Redknapp was also in the running to succeed the long serving O'Driscoll but the former England international has since ruled out a return to the South Coast club.
