Steven Davis today pledged his future to Aston Villa after agreeing terms on a new three-and-a-half year contract at Villa Park. The 20-year-old midfielder, also a regular in Lawrie Sanchez' Northern Ireland side, has been discussing a new deal for the last few weeks and today, it was confirmed by the club that a deal has been struck and Davis will remain at Villa Park until at least the summer of 2009.

Since David O'Leary's arrival at Villa, Davis has been a regular first team player and speaking earlier today, the manager was clearly delighted at the news of Davis pledging his future to the only professional club he has ever played for.

"This is great news for the club," O'Leary stated, "and full credit to the chairman and Steve Stride for sorting it out so quickly, with so little fuss.

"Steven has quickly made himself a fixture in the first-team squad here at Villa and it's vital to the future of the football club that we keep players of his quality.

"He's really made his mark, taken everything in his stride and he continues to develop. I'm absolutely delighted that he's been able to agree a new deal."
