Gary McAllister was today unveiled as the new Manager Of First Division Coventry City. The Scot who was Outstanding for Liverpool last season has seen his first team oppertunites lessin this term. McAllister who enjoyed a very succesful playing career at Coventry and was a firm Favourite with the Sky Blues faithful agreed to go back to Highfield Road this time - as Boss.

The 37 year Old former Scottish Internationalist is set to sign a 3 year deal with the Sky Blues, Macca will replace Roland Nilsson who was sacked by the Highfield Road Club.

The Former Liverpool player who has no experience at managerial Level denies that it is a major risk takin him to Highfield Road.

"People might see it as a gamble and I knew that question would arise," said McAllister.

"It must represent a gamble by the board but I don't see it as such.

"It has been a disappointing season for Coventry and I see it as a very exciting opportunity for me.

"I am very privileged to be asked. I am aware there were a lot of senior managers who applied for this job."

Macca also revealed he intends to play on at least in his first season in charge of the Sky blues.

"I will be player-manager. For how long that will be I don't know - for one season at least."

sky blues chairman chairman Mike McGinnity made it 100% clear that McAllister would not be given any funds to strengthen the Sky Blues.

"There aren't any (funds). I have told Gary all he needs to know about the finances of the club. We may as well start as we mean to go on - honestly."

McAllister has been linked with a move for Motherwell manager Eric Black as his assistant.

Macca only said : "I have three or four people in mind but that probably won't happen before the end of the season."
