It is more than a month since the 22-year-old striker completed a full game - the draw against Galatasaray in Istanbul on February 26.

Assistant manager Phil Thompson said: 'Michael is fully fit. It was good that we did not rush him back.

'He was involved in the Chelsea game and had 45 minutes with England, so I would think he would be chomping at the bit.

'It's nice that Sven Goran Eriksson has been a club manager so he understands the scenario. It certainly suited us in the rehabilitation of Michael.'

Liverpool's unbeaten League run of 11 games since their defeat at Southampton on January 9 has given them a one-point lead over Manchester United, with Arsenal a point further back with two games in hand.

But Thompson expects Charlton to make life difficult. He said: 'You look at some of their away results, particularly wins at Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, and you know it will be tough.'
