Rangers cleared to play in Ramsdens Cup

Late last night a statement was released by the SFA/SFL/SPL that Rangers were given a licence to play on Sunday, and this should become permanent next week.

It looks as though Rangers have accepted a number of conditions to allow the licence to be granted. They are;

  1. They have told the SFA who the financial backers are – will they tell us, we need transparency!!
  2. They have accepted to take on all of the original Rangers football debts
  3. They will accept the transfer embargo starting on 1st Sept – although this seems a bit of a backward step on the original embargo!
  4. A TV Rights package has been accepted – so much for financial Armageddon.
  5. The SPL’s EBT investigation will continue.

This then prompted a strange outburst from Ally McCoist straight after the release of the statement. While he made some goof points there was a lack of dignity in the outburst.

He lamented a lack of leadership at the SFA, which we would all agree with, but he then went on to complain about the number of punishments Rangers have suffered, for 10 months of financial mismanagement at the club.

He seems to forget this mismanagement goes back to the days of David Murray and there has only been two punishments to date. They are 10 points for going into administration and the embargo and fine for not paying taxes and bringing the game into disrepute.

They are in the Third Division and out ofEuropeas the original club went bust and had to apply to the SPL and SFL. UEFA won’t allow you in for three years if there has been an insolvency event.

My worry over the newco is why they are signing SPL players to get out of the Third and Second divisions, when this could be done by signing first division type players.

This seems to be more financial stupidity from my point of view, they could be paying players 100s of pounds per week rather than thousands! You know where this could end up.
