Well done to almost all SPL clubs!

After my plea for the SPL to come up with a decision today, they came out and boldly delivered!

The SPL clubs decided to reject the application to transfer the Rangers SPL share by 10 votes to 1, withKilmarnockabstaining, and only Rangers voting for entry into the SPL.

Despite all the warnings of “Financial Armageddon” © Neil Doncaster, the clubs have followed the feelings of their fans and voted the newco out of the SPL.

This is indeed a bold decision as the clubs as yet don’t know what approach Sky or ESPN will take over the years ahead. It is believed Sky will honour this season’s agreement which should soften the blow, but their future involvement will depend on which division of the SFL the newco end up in.

The good thing is the right decision was taken today, but it is now down to the SFA and the SFL to decide what happens next. I will be honest I am not too bothered where they end up, at least the SPL chairmen haven’t bent over and let them back in.

You do have to question the role ofKilmarnockin this one, their fans have been unequivocal in stating their opposition to the re-instatement of the newco Rangers.

At a time when almost all the other clubs have asked their fans to step up to help them out, and fill the financial void, it would appear Killie will have hacked them off and may suffer as a result.

It also brings into doubt the position of Neil Doncaster, he has already backed 100% a move to a 10 team SPL and this was the only way forward or there would be “Financial Armageddon”. Now he has tried his best to keep Rangers in the SPL and has lost again, predicting “Financial Armageddon”, surely backing the wrong horse twice isn’t good!

One again this is a huge week for Scottish Football, and we will have to wait until next week to see what the SFL clubs decide.
