After the SFA decision to support a 12 month transfer embargo Rangers fans have threatened to boycott away games, amongst other things!
Rangers Supporters Assembly President Andy Kerr has proposed three measures the fans could take. The first is a call for Rangers to withdraw from the Scottish Cup, secondly non-cooperation with theScotlandsquad and finally the threat to boycott away games in the SPL!
Does Mr Kerr not realise that the first two will only hurt his own club and players rather than any of the others they are looking to “punish”. There are only three trophies clubs inScotlandcan win and he wants to encourage his club to pull out one of them. In fact the stricken club Rangers have become it may be only of two cups his side could win.
He then wants to deny his clubs players playing at the top level and representing their county. Again this can only harm the players, and in the long run Rangers, as their value will drop as a result. It can also allow other players to get a higher profile which means there could end up being no interest in Rangers players from other clubs.
The boycott of away grounds is equally ridiculous, the other 11 clubs have done nothing wrong, they have fulfilled their SFA/SPL needs while at the same time paying PAYE, NIC and VAT on time.
There is an argument Hearts haven’t paid their players this season. As I have been reminded on a number of occasions, they have always been paid (maybe late) and this was dealt with within the rules of the SPL.
For me Rangers fans need to face up to the facts of the case here, their clubs has been negligent in the way the business has been run and is now having to face the consequences. The other 11 clubs did not encourage them to take up these practices, it was Rangers desperation to get to 50 titles, to hold of Celtic that did it.
The responsibility lies with Rangers, no one else – now they need to deal with it!
