Ojamaa in action

After a minor slump at the end of December Motherwell have bounced back to consolidate third place with three games unbeaten in a week.

Motherwell actually dropped to fifth on goal difference after last Saturday’s draw with Dundee Utd at Tannadice. But back to back home wins againstDunfermlinein midweek and then yesterday over St. Johnstone have seen them bounce back to third in the table six points ahead of Saints and Hearts.

Yesterday’s game with St Johnstone was a hard fought affair between two even sides and therefore served up a thrilling encounter for the 4500 who turned up.

Well took the lead through Henrik Ojamaa half way through the first half before Jody Morris equalised through a stunning volley just before the break. Well then established a two goal lead thanks to Ojamaa again and a 20 yard strike from Keith Lasley.

Saints made sure it was a tense last ten minutes when they were awarded a soft penalty when Murray Davidson tumbled in the box under pressure fromJenningsandHutchinson. There appeared to be little contact but Calum Murray had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Sandaza also had no hesitation in thumping the ball high past Randolph.

The major talking point after the game was the performance of Motherwell’s new signing, Estonian Henrik Ojamaa, who has made a massive impact for the Fir Park side in his five appearances to date.

The 20 year old played two trial games for Well in December and impressed Stuart McCall, but not only that the player could see the opportunities he could get atFirPark. It seems to be a marriage made in heaven, at the moment!

The youngster is playing for “peanuts” to get himself in the shop window, but Motherwell have seen enough that they are already talking to his representatives with a view to extending his deal beyond the end of the season.
