With the appointment of the managers for the Team GB Men’s and Women’s teams the SFA have re-stated their opposition to the Olympic football team.

There was no surprise today when Englishman Stuart Pearce and then Englishwoman Hope Powell were named manager of the British Olympic teams for theLondongames next year.

There is no surprise that both managers are English given the other three FAs were happy forEnglandto compete in the games, but it may have got others onside if they had appointed someone who wasn’t English!

The SFA this afternoon released a statement saying “In light of today's announcement, the Scottish FA reiterates its opposition to taking part in Team GB. We have been consistently clear in our position and, in particular, the threat it poses to our independent membership of FIFA and also our representation on the International Football Association Board.

"A letter was signed by the Scottish FA, Irish FA and Football Association of Wales in 2009 to enable England to represent Team GB. We remain in alignment with those associations.

“It is imperative we preserve our voice at the top table of world football and the supporters are in agreement with our stance. We have consulted with the men's and women's international squads in order that they understand our position, the reasons for that position and are aware of the feelings of the supporters."

I strongly support this move from the SFA, as I am not sure why we need a Team GB at all. We seemed to have survived umpteen Olympic tournaments without the need to field a team, now as a massive PR exercise it is felt necessary to put one out when the games are inEngland.

I hope noScotlandplayers turn out for this team and that the team wearing the badge of Team GB fails miserably!!
