Busy time in the transfer market

It was a busy day in the Scottish transfer market today with a number of players on the move in the last couple of days.

Motherwell replaced the departed John Sutton by signing their “number one striking target” when they brought in Michael Higdon from St. Mirren. I for one think this will be a good move for the Well, Higdon managed to score five more SPL goals than Sutton did last season.

Higdon was replaced at St. Mirren by Steven Thomson who moved from Burnley to join his boyhood heroes. Thomson has been about a bit since he showed early promise with Dundee Utd, but he has never fulfilled that early promise and has ended up doing a tour of England before coming north again.

This could be a clever signing for Saints as Thomson should have something to improve and this could spur him on to a good season.

The other Saints, St. Johnstone, have also made a good signing today by snapping up Kilmarnock defender Frazer Wright. Wright has been a consistent performer for Killie since his move from Stranraer and he will be a good replacement for Michael Duberry.

Dunfermline have also added to their squad today with Andy Barrowman moving down from Ross County. This seems a bit of a riskier move for me with Barrowman already having failed in the SPL with Kilmarnock, and this could be the type of signing that sees the Pars return to the SFL at the first attempt.

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has made his first summer signing after recruiting French defender Youl Mawene. The 31-year-old previously worked under Brown at Preston and has also had spells with Derby and Greek outfit Panserraikos.

This looks a safe signing for Brown having already worked with the player, and knowing he can’t be worse than the departing Zander Diamond!!

Celtic also added to their squad with the addition of 19 year old Cardiff right back Adam Matthews. It is unlikely he will feature right away with Wilson playing so well.
