The BBC are reporting tonight that Dundee United will not vote in favour of a 10 team SPL in the upcoming vote in May.

It would appear Chairman Stephen Thomson is keen to vote against the idea, no reason for not supporting the proposal has been given.

Thomson is the first Chairman to confirm a lack of support for the proposal, but it is no secret Michael Johnston at Kilmarnock is against the idea as is the Board of Directors at Inverness.

It would therefore appear this is the end of the 10 team League proposal which has been derided by a number of fans groups and SPL Managers, such as Jim Jeffries and Terry Butcher.

It would appear to leave SPL Chief Exec in an untenable position as he has put his full weight behind this proposal as the only way forward.

This is ignoring counter proposals and ideas for League sizes from the existing 12 to 14, 16 and 18!

I sincerely hope we can see the end of the playing each other four times per season, I for one am sick and tired of that. We have ended up with Seven Old Firm games, and Motherwell playing Dundee Utd seven times, this is breeding boredom and complacency.

One thing is for sure the clubs need to get things clear in their minds as soon as possible and allow clubs in both the SPL and the Second Tier to get their plans and budgets in place.
