There were significant results at both ends of the SPL table today with Rangers losing and Hamilton losing.

Rangers could’ve gone top today after the late cancellation of the Celtic game this morning but blew the chance losing 2-3 to Dundee United.

Nikica Jelavic headed Rangers ahead but David Robertson levelled for United on the stroke of half-time.

Steven Naismith volleyed Rangers back in front after the interval and the Tangerines came back again when Johnny Russell nodded powerfully into the net.

David Goodwillie snatched victory for the visitors on 89 minutes, the striker finishing well on the break.

This leaves Rangers two points behind Celtic having now played the same number of games, making the last Old Firm game of the season to be more crucial.

At the other end of the table St. Mirren came from behind to see of relegation rivals Hamilton.

Accies took the lead in the first half when David Buchanan put Hamilton ahead before the half-time interval with a long-range, left-footed strike.

Higdon headed in a second-half equaliser, then made it two from the spot when Martin Canning was red carded for a challenge on Paul McGowan. The striker sealed the points inside a 10-minute period, latching on to a Craig Dargo pass and firing home.

St Mirren's game in hand means they could go further clear of Accies, whose plight in the relegation spot deepens. Saints are currently nine points ahead of the Accies.

In the other games Kilmarnock clinched their top six slot with a 0-0 draw with St. Johnstone, Motherwell helped their top six cause with a 2-1 win over Aberdeen.
