A first half goal from Lens was enough to see PSV Eindhoven progress to the Quarter Finals at Rangers expense.

Rangers started the game with their usual 4-5-1 formation which seemed to allow PSV on to them and after a torrid opening spell they found themselves a goal down.

Dzusdszak was released down the right by a brilliant through ball and his delivery into the box left took out the Rangers defence and allowed Lens to tap in from close range.

The game was predominately played in Rangers half in the first half much to the frustration of the home fans who wanted to see their side get into their opposition.

Walter Smith made an offensive change at half time with Davie Weir going off (maybe an eye on Sunday there as well) and Stevie Naismith came on.

This seemed to breathe life into Rangers with youngster Gregg Wylde causing problems wide on the Rangers left.

Rangers were then denied a stone wall penalty on 62 minutes, Naismith firstly saw a header bounce off the cross bar and when the rebound was bundled back towards the line Hutchinson clearly handled.

Despite having two extra officials in these games it didn’t help as the offence seemed to be out of sight of the three officials at that end of the ground. What is the point of these extra guys with their magic wands??

From then on PSV were in the game more once again and Rangers escaped falling further behind when Dzusdszak’s blistering free kick bounced off the inside of Alexander’s post and bounced clear.

Rangers now have to pick themselves up before they take on Celtic in the League Cup Final on Sunday, although as the cliché goes this game always takes care of itself. This is a game they look as though they will have to go into without the injured Kyle Lafferty, and possibly Bartley as well.
