Dumbarton moved off the bottom of the Second Division with an emphatic win over Airdrie.

Dumbarton dominated the first half at New Excelsior at Airdrie tonight and were unlucky not to be more than one goal up at the break.

Jordan Halsman almost had them ahead after only six minutes but his sweetly hit volley was deflected over for a corner. Halsman then crossed from the left and Pat Walker cam close with a header.

It was no surprise when the visitors took the lead after 21 minutes, Mark Gilhaney somehow found himself in acres of space just inside the box. He kept his cool to slide the ball under the keeper.

It should’ve been two on 32 minutes, McShane rounded the keeper and from five yards somehow managed to hit the post. Diamonds defender Craig Hill almost made amends for him when he too hit the post.

The second goal came in the third minute of the second half, McShane split the defence and Walker shifted his feet to slide a great shot past the diving Ridgers.

The Sons could have been further ahead but Gilhaney saw a shot from 20 yard shot crash off the crossbar and then McShane saw a fine shot saved by Ridgers.

Airdrie were handed a lifeline with six minutes left when Sons keeper pulled down Mackay Steven in the box for a penalty, which was smashed away by Ryan McCord.

In the end Dumbarton hung on comfortably enough in a game which they should have won by three or four goals to nil!! Although manager Adamson was just delighted to get any kind of win given the season they have had to date.
