Do we have a three way title race in the SPL

Hearts celebrate

With Hearts only six points behind Celtic at the top of the table do we now have a three way title race in Scotland?

As we head into 2011 we could be on the brink of a three team title race in the SPL with Hearts pushing hard on the heels of the Old Firm.

Hearts haven’t lost in their last nine games including an excellent win over Celtic in November.

Jim Jeffries has put a solid side together which relies heavily on the power of Kevin Kyle up front and the trickery of young David Templeton. The return to winning form has coincided with the return of Rudi Skacel, despite many doubting this was a good move at the time.

There is no doubt if Hearts can keep this up they could challenge but this month could prove significant as they take on both sides of the Old Firm.

The last time the feat was achieved was when Hearts finished second behind Celtic in 2005-06, and before that it was Motherwell back in 1994/95.

We will know by the end of January whether Hearts can be seen as title contenders never mind a side to split the Old Firm.
