It has been reported that Merson's attempts to bring in a goal keeper have been scuppered. The player in question decided at the last minute he didn't fancy the switch to Bescot.
The deal to bring in a new goalkeeper on loan has fallen through.
Tonights edition of the Express and Star is reporting that Paul Merson and Saints boss Harry Redknapp had agreed to a month long loan of 23 year old Goalkeeper Alan Blayney.
After the clubs had agreed what percentage of the players wages would be paid by Walsall the deal fell through when the player decided he didn't want to make the switch.
Merson has stated that he wanted to bring in a keeper to replace Murphy after he was handed a 3 match ban following his sending off at Blackpool. He claimed that he didn't want to destroy Coleman's development by playing him in League One football until Saddlers had secured their status in this division.
This now leaves Merson with no option but to give Coleman his full league debut.
