It was as sure as eggs is eggs that the official site would announce we had signed an "ex Premiership striker" and the message boards all knew that it was former Derby youngster and Wolverhampton Grammar School boy Marvin Robinson! The 24 year old six footer was the obvious target for Merson on Saturday, once Rushden had published the pictures of him sitting in the stand at Nene Park! He was only on a week by week contract at the Second Division club, so there was no question of a fee. He has signed, initially, until the end of the season.

Robinson has had a chequered career so far, since being a very highly rated youngster at Derby, with his progress having being interrupted by an assault charge and some serious injury problems. Hopefully, he has at last found a chance to settle down and start playing the game seriously.

Ironically, he should be in a position to make his debut on Saturday against Bradford, the team he scored against on his debut for Rushden in the FA Cup first round.
