Walsall have taken Manchester United youngster and Irish under 19 International Danny Byrne on trial and he will play for the reserves today. Walsall have announced that they have taken Manchester United's Irish under 19 International Danny Byrne on trial and he will be playing against Stoke City this afternoon.

Byrne has failed to make the breakthrough at Manchester United that some of his contemporaries, such as Kieran Richardson, have made and was released by them earlier this year. He had been on trial at Reading at the end of last season and also spent some time at Hartlepool last season on loan, as part of their promotion push, but without impressing greatly.

Disappointingly, Hartlepool Manager Neale Cooper described him as being able to play in the middle of the park, but his favoured position was right wing. Quite how this fits in with the make up of the rest of the squad is difficult to see, as we don't really need yet another right sided attacking midfielder.
