^{We were slick, quick and entertaining. Both our goals came inside the opening 15 minutes. The first saw Bennett connect with a great Merse corner, while some great football outside the box  released Wrack who made a clever run in to the box to poke the ball around Sorenson. Magic.} 

^{It could have been all over within the first 15 minutes as both Merson and Leitao threatened the Villa goal.} 

^{We knocked the ball around well and looked strong in defence where Ropes, Emblen, Bennett and Bazeley seemed to handle whatever the Villa could throw at them.} 

^{Fans got a chance to see Leroy Williams in action midway through the half. He replaced Birch who seemed to be carrying a knock. His pace and movement gave us something different up front. Something we haven't had since the days of Roger Boli.} 

^{Carlton Cole had a couple of good chances for Villa, but we always seemed to scramble the ball away. Villa's best chance of a goal came on the half our mark as a tame Hendrie shot from outside the area caught McKinney off guard, but he managed to deal with the danger. This turned out to be the only negative thing about his game tonight.}

^{Time and time again he thwarted Villa attacks, punched out crosses and marshaled his back line. When he blocked a Hitzlsperger special, then blocked a close range header from Mellberg, you could have been forgiven for thinking the Great Jim Walker was back at the Bescot. Magic.} 

^{How we didn't make it three before half time beggars belief. Jorge and Ropes both had chances within seconds of each other but Sorenson was up to the challenge and dealt with the danger.}

^{Despite Villa looking the better side after the break it was the Saddlers who nearly increased their lead. The Saddlers hit Villa on the break and as the low cross came in to the box Jorge was there but managed to poke the ball over the bar.} 

^{We had included trialist Joe Broad in our ranks, and the Plymouth based youngster did well. He worked hard and never wasted a pass all evening. Well worth more of a look.} 

^{The half turned in to the Richard McKinney show. He dealt with efforts from Solano, Cole and Hitzlsperger (twice) as it looked as though he would be keeping a clean sheet.} 

^{When Wright and Daryl Taylor entered the frey things really livened up. It's been a long, long while since we had a team with so much pace and movement. It was a joy to watch us flood forward and attack. The end product wasn't always there, but that will come with time.} 

^{It was sad to see Villa score with minutes to go, but it had been on the cards as Laursen headed home a late consolation.}

^{It was only a friendly and this was Villa's "Chester City game". So we won't be getting carried away. BUT - lets just think about how Leroy Williams terrorised the Villa defence. No one had heard of him before this summer. Then today we find him tormenting two international defenders. Then let us not forget our central defenders. They have quite an understanding developing, and most of all Richard McKinney. More of the same, and this man will become a right hero. Oh, and Merse and Kinsella put in canny performances.}
