The Saddlers registered their first win of the 04-05 campaign against a well organised Tamworth side at the Lamb.

| Tamworth provided us with some stern opposition at the Lamb.
We failed to carve out anything you could call a cast iron chance. Jorge sent a shot in to the arms of the keeper. Fryatt had a chance but slipped in the box, while we also sent in a number of crosses which nobody was able to connect with. Tamworth looked dangerous on the break with two pacey strikers, but they were constantly caught out with the offside trap. The second half wasn't all that different. There were no great chances for either side, but there were plenty of crosses and set piece situations. Standing, Emblen and Jorge all went on to have what you could call half chances but it was left to Merse and Daryl T Merse spotted Taylor's run from the half way line and played in the pacey youngster who raced half the length of the field to poke the ball home past the advancing keeper. Tamworth had a good chance just after, but McKinney and Co. dealt with the problem. We didn't use that many subs today and quite a few of the "regulars" got 90 minutes under their belt. It was nice to get a win - but this was another unconvincing performance. | |||||||||

 BAZELEY, Darren - Not as good as he was against Chester, but he worked hard and did his job. Used the ball well and kept the Tamworth wide men in check. 6/10 | |||||||||
 EMBLEN, Neil - A Man of the Match contender. The pick of our defenders on the night. Emblen was dominant in the air snuffed out an endless number of Tamworth attacks. 8/10 | |||||||||
 ROPER, Ian - Looked a bit on edge with the ball at his feet (nothing new there!) Cleared his lines when he needed to. Dealt with the pace in the Tamworth attack 6/10 | |||||||||
 WRACK, Darren - Another great performance by Wracky who floated around from left to right all game. Looked to get on the ball and create chances. A positive performance. 7/10 | |||||||||
 STANDING, Michael - Got through a lot of work, but the term headless chicken springs to mind. A good team player. The quality wasn't really there. 5/10 | |||||||||
 LEITAO, Jorge - He hassled the Tamworth defenders. He tracked back and made challenges. Yet he is still lacking that edge to his game that can make him unstoppable at times. Had 1 good chance with a clear shot on goal but hit it straight at the keeper 5/10 | |||||||||
 MERSON, Paul - Not as influential as he was against Chester, but the quality hallmark was there with everything he did. Helped us keep possession and carry the game along. Played a great ball in to Taylor for the goal 7/10 | |||||||||
 MCKINNEY, Richard - A very assured performance from our new stopper. Couldn't fault his kicking or the commanding of his area. Lets the back four know who is the boss. Would be nice to see him get a bit more of a test to see how he holds up. 7/10 | |||||||||
| BENNETT, JULIAN - Played at Left Back. He is no Zigor when it comes to going forward, but he isn't afraid to push up field. He used the ball well and looked fairly solid defensively 6/10 | |||||||||
 DAKINAH, Kofi - Played the last half and hour or so at Right Back. Looked cool on the ball and didn't look out of place. It's just a matter of if Merse is impressed 6/10 | |||||||||
 ATIENO, Tai - Certainly made an impact. Got involved in a bit of argybargy towards the end of the game. Not given long enough to make an impression. 6/10 | |||||||||
 FRYATT, Matty - Looked threatening all game. Made some good runs and looked keen to impress. Won plenty of free kicks. Had 1 good chance in the first half. Could be sharper. 7/10 | |||||||||
 TAYLOR, Kris - Came on late in the game and didn't really have time to get involved 5/10 | |||||||||
 TAYLOR, Daryl - This lad really made an impression. He was the only player on the pitch who looked capable of beating 3 or 4 men and getting some crosses in. Took his goal well. 7/10 | |||||||||
| WILLIAMS, Leroy - The young Youth Team striker did well in the short time he was on. He has a great first touch and a handy burst of pace. It will be interesting to see how he develops. 6/10 | |||||||||
 WRIGHT, Mark - Looked sharp and fit. Like Wrack he drifted from Left to Right and tried to be positive. The final ball let him down at times. 6/10 | |||||||||
