There are a few players we can rely on when the going gets tough.  Jim Walker. Ian Roper. Darren Wrack and Jorge Leitao. All have been with us for some time. They worked hard to get us where we are now and know the value of Division 1 football. Only one of those made today's starting XI. 

What about the current crop? Not really up for the fight are they? Emblen and Ritchie can be excused. They take no prisoners on the field. The rest? Well. They are little short of a disgrace. 

Colin Lee himself has said that performances don't count for much at this stage of the season - results do the talking. Well, i'm sorry Colin but you are wrong. If we had gone out there today and took the game to the opposition and still lost 3-0 then our fans would not be so distraught. 

Colin Lee knew he had to freshen up the team from the Burnley game so he did. Us fans aren't football managers - but has Paul Merson been an effective front man for us this season? Was Jorge Leitao  the weakest of our two strikers on Saturday? You decide. 

We were under pressure from the off. Jim Walker had a busy first half and we hardly got going.  Agyemang and Sidibe pulled our defence apart creating a hat full of chances. A goal was always on the cards and came when Agyemang put away the rebound from an initial Gills effort on goal.  Colin Lee - tactical genius saw something needed to change so replaced Paul Merson with Jorge Leitao, and Keith Andrews with Kris Taylor. It was great to see Colin trying to change the game - something he has been criticised for not doing enough this season 

Despite the changes things didn't get any better in the second half. The Gills continued to dominate the game and found the net twice.

The first saw Agyemang skip around Bazeley, put Emblen on his back side, then slot the ball past Jim Walker. Walsall had two or three chances to make a challenge. Bazeley's reluctance to put his foot in stands out yet again. 

The second goal came on 90 minutes when Spiller found himself unmarked in the box and headed home a well delivered cross. Why on earth he was allowed so much space beggars belief. Osborn was the closest player, but it was hard to tell whether or not Spiller was "his man". Either way, Ossie should have been tuned in and picking up an unmarked men. 

This weekend was a test. A test of our ability as Division 1 Club. We have 4 more chances to change things. We could have done things the easy way this weekend, but this is Walsall FC - who never do things the easy way. The evidence of this weekend suggests we are not worthy of Division 1 status. Lets hope they can change our minds. 

Us fans may not have coaching qualifications, and we haven't played professional football,  but we know what we like. Most of us don't like Colin Lee's tactics, can't understand his team selections and are bemused at how he uses his new signings.
