Following Walsall used to be an enjoyable experience. There was certain camaraderie between the fans. In the dark days of basement football it could even have been considered as a culty (yes, it is spelt correctly) thing to do.

There was a hardcore of support that turned up week in week out, witnessed some truly appalling football, gave their support to the team and “enjoyed” seeing the players give their all.

Over the years the club has grown in stature and worked its way up into the first division. As would be expected the attendances have also increased. Unfortunately the IQ of the new fans is inversely proportional to the increase. It has to be said, that the morons in the crowd seem to grow year by year.

We used to have a lot of “black humour” in the crowd that made the “Walsall Experience” what it was. The small band of loyal away support was always vocal, even in times of adversity.

Nowadays this has been replaced by the “anti Dingle morons”. For certain sections of the crowd to actually Boo a new player who has never even kicked a ball for us because he once dared to play for Wolves before he saw the light and come to Walsall, I find totally deplorable. How pathetic can you get? If they didn’t notice, Emblen (pictured) was MOM against the Dons and Andrews was simply immense against Ipswich . What a disgrace the fans at Bescot really are.

Maybe the camaraderie of years gone by was due to fans hopes being exactly that. Hopes and dreams. Nowadays these hopes and dreams have been replaced by unrealistic expectations.

Whilst I don’t agree with Colin Lee having open spats with the fans I can certainly see his point. Bescot must be a hell of a place to play for the manager and players with its increased level of nastiness and hostility towards its own team. It certainly isn’t very nice for the majority of fans either.

It does make you wonder whether it is all worth while. What is the point in supporting your local team when you are surrounded each week by morons? It doesn’t make for an enjoyable match day experience. Maybe the time has come to find alternative “entertainment” on a Saturday afternoon.
