We started off quietly, although Paul Merson did register a long range effort. You could hardly call it end to end stuff, but both sides managed to force corners, with Ipswich looking the most dangerous side. 

Ipswich opened the scoring when Jimmy Walker brought down Alun Armstrong after a Corica back pass had left him  stranded. on eleven minutes. Alun Armstrong stepped up to convert the penalty. The Tractor boys were looking sharp and Bent went on to have another chance minutes later.

Ian Roper was replaced by Neil Emblen, as Ropes appeared to have picked up some kind of leg injury. 

We got the equaliser courtesy of  Gary Birch, who headed home a Vinny Samways cross from the right flank. This seemed to unsettle Ipswich and we began to find our feet, although we couldn't quiet get our passing game together. 

Magilton went on to have two decent efforts before half time but he failed to put Ipswich back in to the lead. We found our selves under pressure as the half ended, with Walker tipping a Bent header around the post  and a long range Wright effort flying past the post.

HT - ITFC 1-1 WFC

The start of the second half was pretty even. Both sides had a fair share of the possession and the game began to open up. Walker saved another Bent effort early on, while  Merson tried to influence the game as he saw an effort hit the side netting. 

As the half progressed Ipswich began to impose themselves on the game and forced a number of corners, from which Alun Armstrong went desperately close 10 minutes in to the second half. 

Bent got the second of the game moments later when he met a Wilnis cross and exposed the poor marking of the Walsall defence.

Leitao came on for Birch, but Lee failed to change the system and we experianced another long period onunder pressure. Walker and Ritchie were there to save us on a number of occasions and we lacked that cutting edge. 

We created a chance against the run of play mid way through the half, but Wrack was denied by a brilliant Kelvin Davies. 

Lawrence came on to replace Osborn as the Saddlers picked up the pace of the game, but still no equaliser. 

We did chase the game and throw men forward, but this nearly cost us a third goal when Counago raced clear only to be stopped by the inform Jim Walker.

Ipswich carved out more chances, and there was no late charge to get the much needed equaliser.

Another disappointing performance, another disappointing result.
