The Daily Mirror is reporting today that one of Walsall's central defensive targets is, indeed, Aston Villa's Steve "Stan" Staunton. There has been a persistant rumour over the last couple of days that one of the central defensive targets has been Steve Staunton.

The Daily Mirror is carrying a story this morning, picked up by the Evening Mail web site, that he is, indeed, one of the players that Lee is interested in.

There have also been stories eminating from Coventry that Staunton is also arousing the interest of Gary MaCallister, so this does fit in with Colin Lee's statements about having lined up a possible deal for one player, but another club having expressed an interest.

The Eire International does fit the bill as a left sided central defender, who also has the ability to play full back and can do a job in midfield.
