Merson played in a very young Walsall side, and those around him were impressed with his influence on them and the game.

Merson is keen to improve is fitness and asked Colin Lee if he could feature in last nights game. It was a young side which apart from Steve Corica and Merson was very inexperienced. The likes of Kris Taylor and Mark Wright will have benefited from playing along side a player like Merson....

Kris Taylor told the express and star

 "He's trying to pass on his experience to us, and its not only for us"

While Mark Wright said

"Its  the first time i've played with him and he's a quality player and a good pro. He helps you on the pitch."

It is clear Merson is giving the whole club a lift. The fact he chose to play last night is very pleasing, and those of us there saw him constantly talking to the other players on the pitch. 

Harry Redknapp said Merson had the very same influence at Portsmouth, only they were promoted. Im sure Saddlers fans would settle for a mid table finish though Paul.
