Saddlers.co.uk reveals Colin Lee had agreed to take on Jay Bothroyd had his trial with the Serie A side not worked out.

The Saddlers have lost out to Perugia in the race to sign former Arsenal front man Jay Bothroyd.

Bothroyd is 21, and the latest in a long line of high profile Lee targets. 

The player went on trial with Perugia knowing he could fall back on a deal with the Saddlers if it didn't work out. Unfortunalty (For us) Bothroyd scored a hat trick in a trial game and did enough to get a contract. He will now be playing in Serie A next season while Colin Lee is "turning his attention to other targets". 

Lee says Bothroyd is a player of "undoubted ability", and fans will know he is one of the most exciting young players in the country when on form. Lee also says the player was "keen" to come to Walsall, so we should rule out a deal in the future.
