Despite not featuring much for Walsall recently and many doubting his Bescot future, Fitzroy Simpson has been called up for his country again as they prepare for this summers Gold Cup.
He is joined in the squad by eight other British based players, including ex-Saddlers Paul Hall and Darren Byfield for Wednesday’s friendly with South Africa.
‘Simmo’ has made only 21 starts for Walsall this season – scoring once – and recently has lost his place to new signings Vinny Samways, Carl Robinson and Jamie Lawrence.
Hall meanwhile has been in sparkling form for a Rushden and Diamonds side who sit top of Division Three with only one game remaining. He has scored 15 goals and today was named in the PFA team of the season for Division 3.
Byfield meanwhile has managed 13 goals – many from the bench - for First Division rivals Rotherham.
Walsall’s other ‘Reggae Boy’ Jamie Lawrence is currently out injured. Jamaica will also play warm up matches against Birmingham City, Haiti and Nigeria.
