Ref Admits to Clanger 

 

 

Scot Mathieson, the referee from the game against Portsmouth today admitted that he made a mistake when he judged that Shakka Hislop was inside his penalty area when punching the ball clear with just 10 minutes of play left.  www.saddlers.co.uk  have reported that Mathieson contacted the club this morning to admit to his error. 

The offence in question took place with just 10 minutes of play left, when the Saddlers were firmly on top of the game.  Although Mathieson has said that Hislop would not have been sent off because he did not deny anyone a goal scoring opportunity, surely the offence could have been punished under the law of deliberate hand ball.

Is his admission  an apology? Will he be punished for his error? What would have happened if Lee or the players had slated the Ref in front of the cameras during post match interviews....(We all know the answers)

Either way, Pompey have got off lightly, Mathieson will not be punished and we have a relegation battle to fight.
